Dana McCoolTo The Person That Stole Our Bag Dear Thief, Tonight you stole many things from us. I have no regard for the sunglasses nor, the intrinsic value of the items contained within the bag. What you truly stole...what was truly taken...was the innocence of a child. My wife and I have saved for over a year for our trip to Boston. We planned and prepared an affordable vacation. We researched hotels and packages for the most cost effective way to see the birthplace of our nation. However, there was one thing that we did not skimp on...our trip to Fenway Park. We believed that this would be a once in a lifetime experience and we wanted it all. We started our Fenway experience by going on the pregame Fenway tour. Craig Kimbrel was kind enough to sign our son's baseball before the game. No greater joy can become a parent than seeing exuberance in their child's eyes. My son was beside himself after meeting Craig. It was his first time being in a real baseball stadium. Craig was the first baseball player he had ever met. And honestly, we were honored...Craig was a real class act...a fan's type of player. We tucked the ball into our bag of Fenway gear and settled into our seats for the game... We sat through two rain delays with positive attitudes....nothing could bring us down after such an awesome pregame... We returned to our seats after the second rain delay. I sat our bag down behind our seats. I left the bag with my wife and son. I left to buy a towel for the soaking wet seats and a blanket for my shivering son. You see, despite it being cold (for a Florida family) and wet, my son was still excited to watch the game. When I returned with the towel and blanket I noticed that something was missing. Our original bag was gone. I frantically searched for it. Unfortunately, it was nowhere to be found. This was the event horizon of our night. I had to explain to my seven year old son the event that had occurred. I had to explain to my innocent child that someone had stripped away his most prized possession. As a family, we have always valued experiences over things. My son didn't care about the baseball, he cared about what it represented. It ruined his entire trip. His entire experience. His entire view of a city that he had waited anxiously to visit. So here's what it boils down to. You stole something that can never be replaced. You stole a memory, an experience, a childhood dream. You stole a child's view of the world. You stole the joy of a parent as they watched their child experience something for the first time. You stole so much more than a baseball.
