Larry BondRemember 1988-2003? That’s when the Tigers went through a 16 year rebuilding program that included lots of high draft picks. It never really paid off for them, culminating in a record number of losses in 2003. Only after Mike Ilitch began pursuing quality free agents such as Pudge, Magglio, Kenny Rogers, etc did the team make strides. Now the Tigers begin rebuilding again with very little MLB caliber talent and a below average farm system. There are no guarantees.

Mark LinderFor all you who are still upset because they traded their aging players. Rebuild to build something again after it has been torn down. People the Tigers foundation was getting old and weak and the prior management allowed their stock to run out of quality stock to replace the aging foundation. They instead had to use their aging assets and flip them for younger quality stock, that they now have to develop, while using lesser quality stock to patch things together until the quality stock is ready so the Tiger foundation is back to being strong. I hope that you fans that still are hurt and bitter about losing your favorite player now understand why.

Dan McLeodYeah I don't think they know what direction they want. Losing Showalter will be what really hurts that team. I think Zach is going to end up with a west division before May. But yeah, when you have good team leaders like Adam Jones and Machado wanting out that's never a good sign for your organization. I think Machado will go to a contending team before July 31st and then go to the Yankees.

We get only 8 pieces of pepperoni on a large instead of 12....it saves him money but looses customers. Al Avila is his perfect bean counter. Prob is attendance will be cut in half...just like his Tigers and Wings product.

They got nothing for him and he wanted to stay here in Detroit. We have nothing left. No hitting or pitching. I feel bad for Miggy he has given the Tigers 10 good years and then they do this ? Avila needs to be fired and the Tigers need to be sold. Mike Illitch cared about this team. His son Chris could care less.

Mike Marchewkawhat is going on with this team is not what you would call re-building. it implies that there are prospects in the system to eventually make this team relevant again. what we have in the farm system are substandard options at nearly every position. al avila needs to get fired and that would be a good first step towards re-building. it is going to be a rough decade tigers fans.

Bob MakMikie Mahtook will be a good leader for the Tigers, him and James MacCannon can help the young guy's whom are comming up in the system, they been there and done that now its their turn to help turn things around along with Miggy and Iggy. I think everyone is jumping to conclusions, just hope they keep Farmer and few of the other young pitchers, to help them along the way. RG will also be an asset to the Tigers , he been there and dealt with rebuilding just as Jim Leland was so quit your dam whinning and give these guys a chane to prove what they can offer to the club on the good side, sure it may take few years but roman wasn't built in a day either...........

Robert NaimanWow, all the negativity. I for one have optimism going into this year than I did last year. For one new manager gardenhire is small ball manager something the tigers need. Not only that last spring training Alex Presley was on fire, only to be sent down to the minor leagues. But other players, like Romine couldn't hit his way out of a wet paper bag. But made the team. What is the point of spring training? With all the trades the tigers made this past year, they have more than enough cash at there disposal. If Avila would now only concentrate on relief pitching and maybe a starter or 2 we could possibly compete as early this year. After all the twins did. Last year. On paper even with all the younger players tigers have, I believe they have a better team than the twins. The only thing I am worried about is the fact I wish Avila was not the person in charge of this.

Dan McLeodAgain I see all the haters came out today. I like Ian Kinsler he's actually a great second baseman, not to mention a great guy. Is it so hard to tip your hat to guy that did a good job and wish him the best on his new endeavor? We were not going to ever get much in return. Believe it or not top prospects actually cost money as well, that's why they're "Top Prospects". Detroit Tigers need to revitalize this team, but if most of you are incapable of supporting your team not matter what than you're not a true Tiger fan. I've been a fan since I was four. I've been through the good times, great times, and bad times. No matter what they do, I'll be sitting by the Third Base side rooting for my home team. Encouraging them all to do their best. Michael H LongEveryday Ian. A players player. You will be missed both on the field and in the clubhouse. You will be missed by Tiger fans. Does this trade make the Tigers a better team in 2018? Of course not, no one who understands the game will say that BUT it also clearly doesn't make much sense to pay a guy ($16 million dollars) who's gonna be 36 and coming off the worst year of his career, while you have a much younger player (Machado) on the roster who you need to see play on a regular basis to determine if he's a longterm solution at second base OR more of a reserve player ala Romine. This rebuild will be long and painful, with or without Ian Kinsler. With that being the case, you may as well go ALL IN. Ian takes care of himself and playing in sunny California should help him play another 2 or 3 years should he do well.

He is a straight contact hitter who does not strikeout much and has a great glove, and wheels. I imagine he will have to have a great showing in spring training to be fully retained...but at 23 years old it’s exciting to see what this kid has.

At least the Phillies won a World Series with the guys they unloaded and not embarrass themselves with a one-win, eight-loss record in two Series like the Tigers.

It’s going to be about 10-12 years before there even relevant in there division. Fulmer to the Yankees is not rebuilding. That’s stupidity.

Phillip SchaberSo tired of seeing people say trade Cabrera. The guy is going to be owed 32 million dollars when he is 39 and 40 and 30 million when he is 41 and 42. No one is ever going to take him unless we pay for probably 1/3 or more of that. Might as well just keep him and possibly get something out of it.but apparently some people would be happier with us paying almost a 100 million over the next 8 years for a guy not even on our team. #worstcontractever

David ThumaThis is going to be long and painful. They don’t have any bats scouts love in the minors, all the best prospects are pitchers. Which is fine if your scouting department and GM are any good you can flip an arm for some bats. But when’s the last time Tigers scouts drafted a great hitter or stole one in a trade?

Steve ZyllaThis will be a telling season to see if Cabrera has heart or not . Everyone saying he's on the decline , should be enough to spur him to have a comeback year. Is he going to get back to MVP years no . But he could still get to 25- 30 homers 90 - 100 RBI . But this is what a team does in a rebuild . I'm just not that confident Avila is the man to do it .

Were you expecting Mike trout back? Come on. This saves the tigers another 11 million dollars while in the very beginning of a rebuild. Yet alone, we have an incredibly talented Dixon Machado who can really show us what he's got now. Y'all bandwagon fans will be hopping back on the wagon in 4-5 years. This is how a rebuild looks. You guys can go to Meijer in 5 years and buy your Manning and Faedo shirts.

Tyler Kline ParkerTigers fan base is so awful. Literally cry about every single move. I bet a lot of you didn't even come around until the 2006 season. Well guess what we were spoiled for over a decade but now we are paying the price for what Dombrowski and Mr. I did. Avila is doing the right thing. People complain Dombrowksi tore apart the minors and now Avila is getting rid of the bad contracts and rebuilding the minors. There is literally no pleasing any of these idiots so called "fans" Oh they traded your favorite player? Boo hoo. Get over it. Tigers are long overdue for this. Omg our farm system improved from 24th to 17th in one season which is almost unheard of. We have 5 prospects in the top 100 thanks to you guessed it Al Avila. Yes they provided great memories but that's it. Be greatful for what we have had the last decade and just move on. If Avila kept all these players we would be spinning in a world of mediocrity for a few more years then have to completely start over from nothing. At least these trades clear up much needed payroll space and got us some decent players to fill the void. We will have some top 10 picks the next several years to stock more talent and build the right way signing good free agents along the way when needed. This is how you build a team not continuously spending and spending spinning in circles. Can't wait for this summer going to games and seeing who the real fans are.

To me we couldve got more but we didnt have to pay any money so the Angels took on alot of money. But with this trade...the Tigers have two picks in the rule 5 and i hope they get Demeritte with one of them. Also as this opens up a spot on the 40 man roster, this looks like 3 prospects for Kinsler. Probably shouldve traded him last offseason when his value was much higher

Phil PfeifferThe Tigers organization has officially become a CLOWN CIRCUS. The idiot son Chris Illitch and his puppet Avila, have to be the worst owner / GM combo in all of professional baseball, even below the Miami Marlins current 'leadership'. Just step right up and take whichever player that you want and you really don't have to give anything in actual value in return. Of all the trades made since last July the Tigers have received maybe one player (Candelario) that could have been considered 'value' in return. The jury is still out on him though. Hell, even Avila commented that the Tigers 'didn't break the bank on this one' after he traded Kinsler for the #20 and the #24 prospect in the Angels farm system, which happens to be one of the very worst in all of baseball. Not one of the 'prospects' that the Tigers received in any of those trades are a 'can't miss' MLB player. Just pure speculation and a whole lot of hope. The Tigers meanwhile gave up J.D. Martinez, Upton, Justin Wilson, Alex Avila, Verlander and Kinsler for these 'hopefuls'. I can hardly wait to see who Avila will receive when he trades Castellanos, McCann, Iglesias and Fulmer in the near future. Get ready for this coming July trade deadline because that is when Cabrera will be on the trading block and I am sure that there is an American League team (not the Angels of course) with a minor league system just a step above that of the Angels that can't wait to give the Tigers their own #20, #25 and #30 and #35th prospect for his services! What is truly frightening to me is that there are still those 'knowledgeable' fans, who actually are trying to 'justify' these moves being made as being the 'right thing to do. I guess that the Tigers will actually have people that will attend games this year.
