Ron Gardenhire returns to Comerica Park, this time as the 38th manager in franchise history.

Brandon WautersKevin Thomas I like him a lot as the manager. And to be honest we should have got him five years ago. I hope he brings traditional old school baseball to this team and brings us back to the basics. And hopefully he'll teach our baseball players how to steal a bag.

Christopher RyanHonestly, the strange thing is that earlier this baseball season I was wondering what team did Ron go to. Then, just lingering in my mind, in thinking that if Ausmus were gone, Ron Gardenhire may be our manager. Then, recently, by surprise, after getting an MLB email that he signed on as the next manager, I couldn't believe it. My unexpected intuition was correct that Ron became our next manager.

Kenneth WalendzikWhen Ausmus was hired I said at work that it was a mistake. I stated Ausmus had no experience and that if the Tigers wanted him to manage they should have brought him up when Leyland was managing so that he could be mentored. The Tigers, as an effective team and unit were destroyed over the last four years. Kind of reminds me of Ned Harknass ruining the Red Wings in the 60's. The positive about Gardenhire is that he won 6 championships in Minnesota working with little.

Richard H. HowardMy problem is the talent was not properly trained to come into the major leagues and Ausmus was a victim but with major talent to deal with and couldn't handle it. The team got worse every year. He is a nice guy but doesn't know how to motivate and train people properly. In spring training, everyone has to do the same thing over and over until they do it by instinct and if they can't, it is time to try other people in the organization. I think the worst thing that can happen is a star or many stars are lost in the numbers and no one can see the forest because the trees are in the way. I hated losing Verlander (broke my heart) and J D Martinez (broke my heart worse as he was a rising star). The Tigers better bring up young guys that can hit the curve, run, throw, and know the game.

David MyersWhy do people continually bag on Avila as a GM? He was simply trying to clean up the mess Dombrowski left behind with all the bloated contracts on what was a team that wasnt going anywhere soon, was in decline form their runs on divisions and world series appearances. People want to continually blame Avila for the decline with the Tigs. It isnt HIS fault. Dombrowski built a great contender and we had a great 10 year run or so, which is awesome. That team had its run, and getting old and declining was inevitable. Avila was assigned to transition us out of bloated contracts and bad deals and move us toward the next run, he is doing a very good job at doing so. The ones that bash him are not True Tigers fans nor do they understand baseball or any major sport. You cant continue to sustain long term success that easily. You get spoiled because of the length of the Red Wings runs (which are notable because they are incredibly rare). You automatically assume that teams should just compete for a world series year in and year out, this just isnt the case. Even the great teams fall off. Look at the San Francisco Giants this year? Look at any World series winner in the past 20 years? Not one of them has sustained any type of success throughout and continually been in the hunt for a playoff spot or world series contention, so why should Detroit be any different? Stop blaming Avila for the woes of this team. Oddly, many of you say GREAT Hire with Gardenhire yet bash Avila??? Who just hired him??? FFS, let the process work, understand that we are a rebuilding team to no fault of Avilas, and he is doing the job in a great way. Everyone thinks that its easy to just trade a bloated contract like Anibal Sanchez when he isnt worth anywhere near that money, and somehow they are supposed to get the next Justin Verlander in the deal??? Understand professional sports and how contracts and performance works before you continue to comment on the success or failure of Mr Avila.

Brian FlowerI so tired of listen to people blame the clubs manager whel the team is losing. All these guys are grown men. If they aren't performing, it's nobody's fault but their own. a manager can only play the team he is given. Zimmerman not pitching well is his own fault. Verlander went to Houston because the teams offense wasn't helping him. The manager may put the player in, but it's up to the player to perform. Miggy is slacking, Zimmerman needs to find himself.....The only ones to blame for this miserable season are the players!

Christopher PizzuteI just find it funny how so much emphasis is put on managers. I mean yes, they set schedules for practice, lineups, scouting for other teams in developing an approach to each game but once that is done.. that is it. If the players are sucking( not saying the Tigers are terrible) there is really nothing you can do except wait for them to start hitting or pitching well. Biggest example of this is Terry Collins. Was Terry Collins a bad manager? No. but because the team fell apart with injuries and just piss poor performance all the blame was put on him. It's just ridiculous that the manager is given all the blame when it's really not their fault at all.

Fred ClarkI don't really think a manager makes much difference with a team going nowhere. He'll teach the kids and in 3 years they'll fire him and move on. I think he's an honest, respected person and that's all that should matter.

Andrew ElwellWhat a joke. I mean i don't care for the tigers anyway but ive been paying close attention to baseball and its business for many years. I think Ron Washington would of been a great manager in Detroit. He had lead the rangers to great records and a World Series. I think the tigers hired this low life to save money. All their trades and free agents this year have big giant mistakes. But hey thats corporate America right????

Kurtis HarrisonBad Hire. They lose games under Gardy due to his big ego and get ejected and they'll be bounced from the playoffs. That's what happens when you hire a old fossil to manage the team instead of someone young like Omar Visquel who I wanted to manage this team. He has a piss-pour playoff record due to him being 6-21. He's the Bobby Valentine of baseball. Period.

Telling us we are going to suck for a while thank god miggy already has a ring. When you look at who were on this team I get a bad headache, think about last season starting lineup no way we where almost lost 100 games no way!!! We had 4 cy young pitchers JD & J-UP flat out massed this year The pitching staff ? The tigers should have a championship but the main problem was manager and his team

Mark LinderHe needs to be traded for a couple top flight prospects his age is prime, and coming off a good productive year. He will not be a part of a finished rebuild. The same goes with Fulmer given his age and if he bounces back from elbow surgery. He will be a free agent before this rebuild is complete so I say sell high.

Mary GreeneGrandson has been barred from school for 3 days, where he has stopped bullying or defended himself. How do you stop bullying if you are not allowed to defend yourself. He's told to go get a teacher to handle the problem. Afraid he's getting a reputation of being a bully himself, and we don't want that. What to do here?
