Bernie CollottyBlake Snell said he worked on his delivery while in the minors. That's not his problem, he has a big league arm. What he doesn't have yet is a big league mindset. You can't be so afraid of throwing a bad pitch that you can't throw a good pitch.

Darren SwiftBlake has elite level stuff. He dominates triple A but then can't throw a strike where he wants it in the big leagues. This isn't a mechanic issue or a talent issue. This is a mental issue. Whether it's confidence, or fear or throwing a bad pitch, or something different, it's a mental issue and hopefully they figure it out soon. But I'm not mad at Blake. There is absolutely no excuse that we only got two runs off Nova. We should've scored 8+ runs this game. Gotta get the big hit at the right times

Alex GrangerNo Snell wasn't perfect, but he did have a few good pitches get hit hard. Has to tone down the walks the though. May as well just give a hit and not throw 100 pitches in 5innings.

Kurt HeubuschNot a good game. 10 hits just 2 runs. Pitching again out of control.blake snell doesn't look too rythmatic out there as if you watch where he ends up on his release it's not the same after a lot of pitches. Looked stiff.

Avatar

John Stephen Lane Sr.Sad. So very sad. How many chances do you give a guy and finally say, enough? Obviously the team itself has little confidence in him. It's abundantly clear he isn't ready for prime time, if he ever will be. Potential is not the same as results. This is a results oriented game, not excuses, speculation. You either have it or you don't and all the excuses in the world won't change the results. If it did, he'd be undefeated based upon all the excuses. Baseball is not a game of "Mulligans".

Patricia DeVries-mckinneySnell really does throw a good pitch but far and few in between. He has to get mentally ready to play in the big league. Honestly, he's not ready mentally to deal with the stress of being a great pitcher. Give him another year, maybe.

Andresse on dl till August can't use him .deleon I think he just came back from dl .back in Durham but not enough experience so what can you do can't trade for a starter .so knowing Rays will be forced to stay with snell for now I don't see any other options unless someone knows someone else who can't start .by the way tomorrow game 81 half the season.

Lee MapesAfter watching the game last night, Colome should have in NO WAY been credited with a win. He blew the lead for Cobb who pitched brilliantly and I feel that if a closer comes in and blows the lead and the other team ties in by the end of the inning, and does not come back into pitch the following inning, he should in no way get the win if another pitcher comes in and gets the save. The official scorer should have the authority to give Cobb the victory with Hunter getting the save as he should have. The rule needs to be changed and Colome needs to stop being the closer. It's the 4th appearance in a row that he has either blown the save and got either a credit for a win or loss or no save. At this point, I would go with Hunter as my closer and let Colome do spot middle inning relief appearances and if he screws that up, either release or trade him. The bullpen has lost too many late inning games for the Rays this year.

Bill HallarSad he did not win cash makes to many stupid moves they were lucky to win. Leave Cobb in let him win or lose on his own. He had only thrown 90 pitches , we need colome to win but to take a win like this from Cobb was nuts.

Bruce WaltsI agree, the official scorer should give the Win to Cobb, Call-home should be benched and let one of the starters pitch one inning between starts. 2 horrible outings in a row for Cool-homey., In his defense, there are only a handful of decent closers today. Time to re-write the formula.

I am sick and tired of Tim crybaby beckham it's time for him to go .wont talk to press at all the rest of year because mad about change to second base not shortstop.and this is not the first time remember last year sent down to minors for rest of year when twice would not obey direct orders from cash and timfoley bench coach move your butt fast around bases he did not .he has proven to me not a team player he only cares about himself even Steve dugmig said he thinks. Reason Roberson sent down was to show beckham off for a trade .time to get him out of here the sooner the better .

Michael BatesCobb deserved the chance to finish that game. And to bring struggling Colome in who blew the lead? And Colome gets the win?? Cash was fortunate we won this game despite his removal of Cobb who was breezing along. Good job Alex!!

Richard N. WilliamsRule 25 Please review with Official Scorer in Pittsburgh. Win must go to Hunter-- "Exceptionβ€”If a relief pitcher conforms to the above regulations but pitches briefly and ineffectively, the scorer should not credit him with a win. If a succeeding relief pitcher pitches effectively and helps maintain the lead, the scorer should award the win to that succeeding pitcher."

Chris LounsburyDon't sugarcoat a win with a no decision for Cobb and Colome who blew it for him gets a W. MLB should look at a quality start rule that nets a guy who did 8 innings of works can get the win when his "closer" blows it.

Marie Livanos CokkiniasAlex Cobb pitched an exceptional game tonight. That said, why are we still using Colome as the Closer? So far, he has lost two games and nearly lost us the game tonight after letting the Pirates tie it in the ninth inning. We need to seriously look into another Closer for a while. Colome doesn't have it at the moment and will lose a lot of more games for us. Thank God we won the game in the 10th.

Tom HodgesAlex Cobb should have had a complete game (shutout?) last night! Can not believe he was taken out with less than 100 pitches. And to bring in Colome who has blown or nearly blown his last three opportunities was mind boggling! There is no way he should have gotten credit for the win. It was Cobb's to lose but unfortunately he never got the chance. I am glad to hear Boxberger is back. We need a closer!

Ray BesseCobb should have had a WIN after a stellar performance. Alex Colome needs to be a set-up man cause he no longer can hold a lead. His last 4 performances have turned into disasters. Time to pick -up a pitcher, we have enough infielders and outfielders which seems to be more important then pitching

Cindy SwinehartGreat win. I also am old school baseball with pitcher do finishing the game if pitching well. What I have a HUGE problem with is the nasty comments that are made about players/managers/coaches. As if any of these people sitting at home in their cushy recliners could do a better job!?! This is a game to be enjoyed -- we won't always agree with decisions that are made --embrace the win & move on. Go Rays!!

Carol KingAgree that Cobb was" excellent" and should have been given a chance for a complete game at 98 pitches.Heck would have been better then Colome.I know pitchers go through rough patches but his last 3-4 games have been awful...Go Rays Rays Up

Tom LawsonFor those who say Cobb was finished you absolutely know nothing about baseball. A 1,2,3 8th inning with an ending strikeout, less than a hundred pitches and you sit him on the bench? It makes you wonder if there is an incentive clause in the pitchers contract that gives them a bonus for complete games. Stu wouldn't stand for paying out an incentive bonus. Cash is no manager...he is a bull pen coach.

Winston MillerGreat outting Alex Cobb. It didn't seem that he was using the change up much, but still was getting weak contact from the hitters. He deserved the win, but 8 innings of 2 hit baseball is excellent. Contributions by Ramos and Hechavarria, too.... nice to be excited about the Rays outlook as the season advances.

Casey WilkeningCobb dazzled; Colome fizzled πŸ˜• Bad move on Cash's part. What he should have done is let Cobb start the 9th and if anyone got on base then you re-evaluate. Cobb at 98 pitches is a way better option than a shaky Colome with only a two run lead.

Veronica MaltbieStatistics are essential to baseball. For the batter, it's BA, HR and RBI'; for starting pitchers, it's WINS and STRIKEOUTS and ERA. If a pitcher pitches an 8 inning shutout and the team wins, you'd think that pitcher would win the game, right? Not so, in yesterdays game between the Rays and the Pirates in Pittsburg. In that game, the Rays closer entered the bottom of the 9th inning up by 2. By the time he managed the 3rd out, the score was tied and the game went into extra innings. Top of the 10th, The Rays regained the lead by 2. Bottom of the 10th, Another pitcher came in and rapidly struck out the side. So, Rays win! But here's the thing, the pitcher who gave up the lead in the 9th was the "pitcher of record" when the Rays retook the lead in the next inning. So, when the game ends in the 10th inning with the Rays ahead the "pitcher of record" gets the win. So, the guy who lost the lead in the ninth, in this case, gets the win. Now what's wrongs with this picture? Come on MLB! GIVE ALEX COBB (the guy who pitched 8 shut out innings) THE WIN! Cobb came back from Tommy John surgery this year and pitched his best game yet! He deserves the win!
